Welcome to the Shoeburyness Emergency Alert Service (SEAS), presented by QinetiQ, in conjunction with Essex County Council, Rochford District Council and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council.
QinetiQ manages the test and evaluation ranges at Shoeburyness and Foulness Island in Essex on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. The site is subject to the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) regulations as enforced by the Health and Safety Executive and the Environment Agency. Under these regulations, QinetiQ has a legal obligation to keep local residents and businesses informed of any issues concerning this site which may affect them.
If you have received a letter from QinetiQ about public safety information, this will explain that your house/place of work either:
- falls within the specified distance of the site boundary that forms the Public Information Zone (PIZ); or
- is adjacent to the PIZ.
Regardless of which of the above categories your address falls within, we have a responsibility to advise you what action you should take in the unlikely event of a major accident or incident on the site that may affect you.
